What Roblox Announced at RDC 2026: The Biggest Takeaways
The Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) is a yearly event which brings together Roblox’s most talented creators, developers, and brands from around the globe. It also serves as a main event where the company unveils upcoming platform features, cutting-edge tools, and technical objectives like advanced AI and engine updates that will shape the future of the “Roblox Metaverse”. Aside from the major announcements, those who attend participate in intensive technical workshops, meet with industry peers, and collaborate during the traditional game development jam. The conference ends with the “Roblox Innovation Awards” that celebrates the community's outstanding technical and creative achievements.
RDC 2026
This year, several major announcements were made at the conference regarding the future direction of the platform as well as the community. Let’s have a look at the things coming to Roblox.
Roblox Everywhere
This upcoming feature will soon allow creators to package and distribute their Roblox experiences and games as standalone applications across PC, mobile, and console platforms. This will allow developers/creators to target traditional markets while continuously using the platform's core infrastructure.
Web and Offline Play
As browser support grows, players will be able to launch and play Roblox games and experiences directly from Google Chrome by the end of 2026. This eliminates the need for the installation of the traditional Roblox Player. What’s more, offline gameplay is currently in development, this will allow developers to combine offline solo game play with live multiplayer connectivity which will be in early access by late 2026 with a more extensive operational rollout planned by mid-2027.
Engine Advancements and 2D
The platform is enhancing its engine capabilities to support native 2D game development. This will include an orthographic camera, direct sprite-sheet imports, and animated image containers supported by advanced user interface. Also, with support for asynchronous gameplay, a specialized notification system for turn-based games will enter Beta by October with a planned full deployment by the end of the year.
The platform’s social/communication features are also being upgraded like an ever accessible “Friends Chat Tab” that follows users between different games, voice- operated functionality, and “Quick Words” which are policy-allowed pre-set phrases managed by creators.
The AI Initiative
Build Alpha
Roblox has an AI text-prompt creation tool called “Build”. This tool is now being expanded to both Singapore and Serbia. Currently, Build has been used to publish roughly 9,000 games with 71% of Build users having no earlier experience using Roblox Studio. Expanded Build features will now include desktop access, iterative control mechanisms, a dedicated asset library, enhanced analytics, and soon, mobile game advertising options.
Scene Generator and Thinking NPCs
Coming up will be a “Scene Generator” that will empower creators to generate fully operational 3D scenes using text prompts and reference images. The platform will also introduce advanced non-player character (NPC) behaviors that will include intelligent NPCs capable of conducting automated play-testing.
Graphics and Terrain Enhancements
Roblox is also introducing anticipated “spline tools” that let developers flawlessly draw and manipulate roads, paths, rivers, and streams. The surrounding terrain now automatically conforms to and adapts to these created features. What’s more, a new rendering system eliminates the old "visual fall-off" on distant horizons. It adds smooth texture blending and a far more realistic foliage detail while actually reducing CPU memory use. Finally, creators will soon be able to layer custom Physically Based Rendering (PBR) textures with masks to simulate realistic surface weathering, and better light scattering for materials like human skin.
Content Discovery and Monetization
The platform is enhancing its short-form gameplay video discovery feature, “Moments”, for the US. By October, gamers will be able to purchase avatar items directly from these video clips. Simultaneously, discovery rankings are being adjusted to address younger demographic preferences for quick bite-sized gameplay experiences while providing for the older audiences deeper gameplay choices.
The Roblox Wallet
With the announcement that the community has generated over $5 billion through the “Developer Exchange Program” (DevEx) since 2013, and approximately $1.7 billion earned within the past 12 months, the company is introducing the “Roblox Wallet” that will give eligible U.S. independent developers aged 18 and above access to daily payouts in real currency (during business days) with a connected Roblox Card planned for 2027.
More developments will be coming as time goes by, but for now, these are the anticipated developments to be put in place in the Platform’s immediate future. Regardless, the Wizards of Roblox have spoken of the new wonders to behold in the realm of the Roblox Multiverse.
